Diwali celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in Northern and Central India

Diwali is one of the biggest festival of Hindus, celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in India.

Ubiquitous festivities, Lights and fireworks, and liveliest public spaces Francis Bacon, a English philosopher, said: "In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present." For those who may not know, Bacon's 16th century words come true every year, quite literally, in the holy land of India.

Diwali, as the most widely celebrated festival of the Hindus is called, is simply and yet so overwhelmingly a "festival of lights." Its religious, spiritual, and social significance illustrates the ultimate win of the light over the darkness, good over evil, knowledge and wisdom over ignorance, and hope and optimism over despair and pessimism.

Fixed each year between October-November as per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the darkest, new moon night of a month of Kartik. So, all is really set for Bacon's concept of innate rivalry between the light and the darkness.

The sight of festivity-filled homes lit bright with celebration lights and little oil lamps, the vibrancy that exudes from people's tittle-tattles, the vivid colors of sweets, gifts, and new clothes that people wear that suddenly pervade public spaces, and of course the inimitable spectacles of fireworks that overwhelm the skies - all this really makes the time around Diwali to be one of the best times to visit India. Falling in the colder seasons of this generally hot and humid country, Diwali simply makes it much easier for a tourist to enjoy every aspect of it.

Perhaps a smarter way to witness this spectacular festival is to make it a part of your pursuit to see some of the most culturally-rich places in India. For example, you can plan a trip to Delhi, Jaipur and Agra around the Diwali time and be a witness to all the shine and glitter that dawns upon these places with the advent of Diwali. Howsoever you may design it, an experience of Diwali is inarguable one of the best that the incredible India has to offer.
